Many folks can build a house—just think Three Little Pigs. Nowadays, complete and comprehensive pre-approved “cookie cutter” plans can make home-building resemble a paint-by-numbers exercise.

In contrast, successful home renovations and seamlessly integrated additions require a Builder with relevant experience, imagination, creativity, and attention to detail—and to budget. This field of work, the specialty of Crouch Contracting, more closely resembles composing portraits on blank canvas.

Unlike new construction plans, drawings for additions and alterations are not reviewed for Code compliance by the City of Raleigh. Thus the builder and all subcontractors must possess the ability to “think on their feet” to satisfy all Code requirements, move the work along expeditiously, and pass multiple field inspections, all without benefit of approved blueprints for guidance.

For more than a quarter century, I have worked with Raleigh homeowners to renovate and enlarge their homes for many years of future enjoyment. Each project is unique; each has an evolving life of its own. The surprises uncovered in typical older homes lead to structural and aesthetic challenges; detail and even design revisions are common as work progresses; new and old must be integrated skillfully and in compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes. And, most projects must be planned, organized, and executed to accommodate the needs of clients who continue to live at home for the duration of the work.

At Crouch Contracting, my goal is to provide each client with quality service at a fair price and in a timely manner. To that end I personally supervise each of my jobs, and spend as much time as needed working with each customer from planning through punch list. A large component of quality service is minimizing the inevitable disruption of family lives and the family home. Careful planning and good communication can accomplish this goal as well as expedite completion—to the benefit of all involved.

Having worked extensively on Raleigh area houses from each of the last twelve decades, I am thoroughly familiar with building techniques as they have evolved from the 1890’s to the present day.

This knowledge is invaluable in planning, budgeting, and executing major improvements to virtually any existing home. With almost 30 years of hands-on experience, I can anticipate what demolition will likely reveal, what problems may be encountered, and how to cope with them. Engaging a Builder with experience-based knowledge is the Homeowner’s best defense against ensnarement in the proverbial “money pit.”

My goal has never been to” build” a large business.

Put simply, I am not comfortable taking on work for which I cannot be personally responsible. Without office rent, superintendent, secretary, or advertising expenses, I am able to put more of your money into your home and less into overhead. By working personally with you from start to finish I can ensure that your project proceeds efficiently and in a cost-effective manner.

Pride in workmanship, though an intangible, is manifest in the results of Crouch Contracting projects. Each subcontractor is a conscientious as well as competent professional. My involvement with them is not limited to brief, infrequent site visits with electrical or plumbing co. owners; I interact daily with the craftsmen bringing your project to fruition.
